Amoxil Is a Penicillin Group Medicine for Everybody
According to the analytical report published in March by the DSM Group, Amoxil is in the Top-20 of the most sold medicines. This kind of medicine is produced as pills and per oral suspension powders, it contains of a broad-spectrum antibiotic. In accordance with the prescribing information, Amoxil is used for treating various inflammations and bacillosis including gonococcal infections, gingivitis, ear infection, appendicitis, and bone disorder. Is it universal and good medicine?
Formulation
Amoxicillin is the Amoxil reactant. In 1972, one of the oldest and the most famous Great Britain companies Beecham synthesized the Amoxicillin but then the GlaxoSmithKline Corporation absorbed the Beecham Company.
Amoxicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic. β-lactam antibiotics are substances which contain of a ring containing three carbon atoms and one nitrogen atoms. This kind of substances is very vulnerable because some strains of bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes to split the ring. After that, the Amoxicillin is not strong medicine anymore and makes possible for peptidoglycanes to connect. Cell walls consist of peptidoglycanes, so as the gram-positive bacteria consist of many peptidoglycanes, they are very vulnerable for this kind of antibiotics.
In addition, the Beecham Company decided to add clavulanic acid to reduce probability of bacterial resistance to Amoxicillin. The name of clavulanic acid origins from bacteria strain Streptomyces clavuligerus, which produces clavulanic acid.
As it is an antibiotic substance, its activity is low but if it is mixed with the Penicillin group substances (Amoxicilin also considers to the Penicillin group substances), clavulanic acid makes it possible for them to avoid destruction because of beta-lactamase.
The company called combination of these components as Augmentin. Currently a drug patent has terminated. There are many generic drugs. Generic drugs are medicines based on medicine reactants which patent is terminated. However, generic drugs are produced under a nonproprietary name, for example, Amoxil.
The medicine excretion and splitting lasts through kidneys for two hours. According to reviews of 45 research papers, vomiting, sickness, diarrhea, and mycosis were side effects of Amoksiklav, which cause microorganism imbalance after treatment of a patient. There were also hepatitis and such allergic reactions as rash. That was not often (for example, one of 100 000 patients had hepatitis). If patients took the antibiotic for a long, they had the allergic reactions. However, just 25 of 45 clinical trials had reports about side effects.
Basing on a PubMed base of research articles, there are 154 randomized double blind controlled clinical trials.
Double blind placebo-controlled method is a method of clinical research of medicines when probationers do not know important details of the research. The "Double Blind" method is a lack of any information neither for probationers nor for experimenters about methods of treatment for each probationer. "Randomized" method is a random grouping; the placebo is used to show that medicine effect is not based on self-suggestion and the medicine helps better than a pill without any active agent. Results are not distorted subjectively at this method. Sometimes, controlled group gets another medicine with proven effectiveness but when there is no placebo to show that the medicine acts better and that the medicine is better than its analogs.
Results of the researches are various. For example, according to one of the articles, such medicine is useless for anorectal abscess when pus clump in rectum. According to another research, the antibiotic is useful for neutropenia (reduction of one of subtypes of immune cells) caused by blood cancer of children. Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid protect them from fever and infections better.
At the research of chronic sinusitis (inflammation of mucous membrane of the nose) of adults, the medicine was effective like the Ciprofloxacin antibiotic. During clinical trials among adults who had sharp sinusitis, the medicine had no effect in comparison with placebo.

Kidneys, Ears, Etc.

According to many researches, the Amoxil and its analogs help for treating inflammation of middle ear quickly. If children of 12 years old take the pills, there is no difference if a daily dose is divided into three, four parts, one, or two parts. Therefore, the pills may be prescribed for taking in the second way especially as it is more convenient to take the pills in such a way. According to the research published in 2016, if an ear discharging when a ventilation tube is set into an ear, drop and per oral antibiotics act better than placebo.
According to a review about children of five years and upwards, the antibiotic does not help to prevent otitis or respiratory tracts infections. The antibiotic acted better than placebo reasonably but there was a high risk of close-mindedness or wrong interpretation of test scores.
Authors of another review analyzed the data of 4452 patients basing on 27 research and considered if the antibiotics against infectious kidney diseases for children acted worse than combination of the antibiotics against infectious kidney diseases for children with intravenous antibiotics. It turned that their effects were similar.
Amoxil is recommended for taking against otitis but it is not recommended for taking against streptococcal infections!
A combination of Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The World Health Organization also recognizes Amoxicillin and registers the medicine at the list of the most important medicines. However, it does not act again any infection; it acts mostly against gramnegative bacteria.
It acts against middle ear inflammation and chronic sinusitis both of adult patients and of children but it does not act against acute of adult patients. We do not know if it is necessary to take Amoxicillin against respiratory tracts infections to prevent complications. Amoksiklav may also be useful for kidney infections or urinary tracts as well as for danger of infections caused by animal bites.
In this case, you should be sure that you have bacillosis because antibiotic does not act against viruses but there are also rare side effects. Protracted unnecessary courses of antibiotic may be harmful as they destroy the microflora and make it possible to catch other infections. However, if the medicine is prescribed for you, treatment should be carried out. Otherwise, undestroyed bacteria may be stronger and may make other bacteria stronger.
By the way, if you have penicillin allergy, you should not take Amoxil because these antibiotics are of the same class and they have similar structure.
